Brandenburg’s railway industry – strong export sector

  • Medium-sized enterprises and major companies dominate the sector
  • More than 5,000 workplaces; ca. 18,000 incl. suppliers and enterprises in Berlin
  • Above-average export rate of the branch, exterior markets count for ca. 45% of the turnover
  • domestic demand fluctuates, especially that of the major carriers for vehicles
Railway technology centres   Main locations are Brandenburg-Kirchmöser and Hennigsdorf-Velten. The three most important segments of railway industry can be found here: transport ways, rolling material and services.    Bombardier in Hennigsdorf has at its disposal significant research and development capacities.    Due to increasing demand for compact and systems solutions of the final producers, Brandenburg’s medium-sized businesses face big challenges concerning R&D and product range adjustment.   The BahnCompetenzCentrum Kirchmöser and the Railway Technology Centre in Hennigsdorf take care of the expertise network.
