Aerospace region taking off

Berlin-Brandenburg has turned into an important aerospace technology region, especially in the field of engine technology.
Aerospace technology has a long tradition here. It began almost 120 years ago with Otto Lilienthal. Today, it is in the running to become the third important aerospace hub in Germany.
The aerospace industry is one of 16 growth sectors in Brandenburg that receive special support for investments and networks between science and medium-sized businesses.

Global players in this sector like Rolls Royce Deutschland in Dahlewitz and MTU Maintenance Berlin-Brandenburg in Ludwigsfelde show astonishing growth potential and support the region’s economic power.

At present, Berlin-Brandenburg hosts around 70 aerospace enterprises with ca. 2,800 employees. The jobs at the airports can be added. All together, the branch provides work to 15,000 people in the region.

The branch’s exported goods labelled 'made in Brandenburg' amounted to around 485 mio. EUR in 2005 – an increase of 11.7% compared to 2004. This equals a share of ca. 7.4% in Brandenburg’s total export. Aerospace industry products are Brandenburg’s second important export articles next to those of the pharmaceutical industry.

Boost from Brandenburg

Core competences are drive engineering as well as maintenance, overhaul and repair (aircraft maintenance). Brandenburg is a leading region in this sector.

The area also possesses production and marketing know-how concerning small aircrafts as well as accredited research and educational institutions.

Local enterprises and research institutes take part in three of the four major pan-European projects. (Galileo, A 380, A 400 M).

Well connected branch

The players have bundled their potential in the Berlin-Brandenburg Aerospace Alliance (BBAA) – bringing together everything from industry, research, development to business promotion. The association of global players, medium-sized technology firms, accompanying service enterprises as well as universities and colleges contributes to the special power of this sector in the capital region.

Well prepared for the future

The new Berlin Brandenburg International Airport (BBI) is the leading infrastructural project in Berlin-Brandenburg. Like a magnet, it is bound to attract further investments to Germany’s capital region.

Germany's largest aerospace show and conference, the International Aerospace Exhibition (ILA), has its seat in Berlin-Brandenburg. It is a leading international fair in this sector.
